If you are facing this problem, follow the steps below to repair network issues and get QuickBooks running smoothly:
1. Verify Hosting Settings on All Computers
On each workstation, open QuickBooks.
Go to File > Utilities.
If you see Host Multi-User Access, do not select it. (This option should only be active on the server).
If you see Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, click on it to disable hosting on workstations.
2. Run QuickBooks Database Server Manager
On your server computer, open the QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Scan the folder where your company file is stored.
This will reconfigure the .ND network data file and allow workstations to connect properly.
3. Check Windows Services
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Make sure the following services are running and set to Automatic:
QuickBooksDBXX (where XX is the version year)
QBCFMonitorService
If not running, right-click > Start.
4. Configure Firewall and Network Ports
Open your firewall or antivirus settings.
Allow QuickBooks programs (QBDBMgrN.exe, QBUpdate.exe, etc.) through the firewall.
Make sure the required ports for your QuickBooks version are open (e.g., 8019, 56728, 55378-55382).
5. Test Network Connectivity
Ping the server from each workstation to confirm network connectivity.
If the server is not reachable, check your router or network cables.
6. Restart QuickBooks in Multi-User Mode
On your workstation, open QuickBooks.
Go to File > Switch to Multi-User Mode.
Try accessing the company file.
